Background The threats against the United Nations, and by extension to the Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system, are multifold and transcend borders. The global terrorist threat which has significantly impacted the UN in the past, the wide range of programmatic activities, which by nature also require to operate in environments of armed conflict or in areas affected by natural disasters, necessitate that the organizations develop and maintain a responsive and client-oriented mechanism to address security needs enabling programme delivery. The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally. It enables, leverage and deploy technology solutions that help the team implement new ways of doing business to work smarter and more efficiently, and ultimately to improve the way it provides value to UNDSS partners, stakeholders, and beneficiaries. Under overall supervision of the Country Security Advisor (CSA) and the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Security, the ICT Security Assistant provides ICT and administrative support services to the UNDSS team located at the UN Common house in Diamniadio, and provides daily technical support to users of information management tools and technology infrastructure. The ICT Assistant promotes a client-oriented approach. Duties and Responsibilities Support implementation of the Security Information Systems and strategies. • Participate in the development, programming, testing, debugging, implementation and support of security systems releases, modules and functionalities, independently liaising with users to define and specify requirements • Develops, tests, and implements simple computer application systems and programs using UN established standards for IT technologies, programming languages and tools. • Maintain functional specifications for security application systems, programs and procedures developed and/or modified and optimizes developed solutions. • Provides continuing user support to troubleshoots security systems Ensure effective functioning of the team hardware and software packages. • Installs security systems software and hardware according to specifications, monitoring systems to measure performance and to provide continuous operations • Evaluates package solutions and matches user requirements to the appropriate solution. • Ensures that specific business needs of the Section are addressed by the software solutions provided. • Checks and certifies license compliance and ensures that software patches are installed. Support network administration. • Prepares technical and user documentation for major security systems as well as training materials and technical presentations. • Organizes training for software users and provides guidance and training to new/junior staff. • Maintain the filing system ensuring safekeeping of confidential materials. Ensure facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing in the team • Participate and assist in the organization of training for the team on ICT issues. • Provide sound contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice. Information Management & Technology -IT Customer Support : • Ability to support l customers on IT related issues and generate and contribute to continuous improvement processes to deliver a great user experience. Knowledge of ISO 9001 desirable. ITIL certification or similar is desirable. • Information Management & Technology Network, Communication, and Infrastructure Management: Ability to develop/integrate/operate/manage IT network, communications, Cloud or on-premises infrastructure, and new technologies like IoT. Cisco CCIE CCNP or similar is desirable. Information Management & Technology-User Experience and Business Analyst: Capacity to translate efficiently user needs into IT requirements around human-centered design. Required Skills and Experience Education Secondary education is required with formal training in IT systems, business software and/or web-based applications. Certifications in ITIL/hardware/software management/application and/or MCP are an asset. A university degree in Information Technology, Information Management, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or an equivalent field will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement.
